Who Am I?

My name is Z, although my friends, peers, and artistic colleagues know me by the mononym Straz. I use they/she pronouns, and I am a trans performing artist and professional based in New York City who recently recieved my BFA degree early from the University of the Arts.

Originally from the Boston area, I grew up loving film, and I pursued theatre within my school and my community to bridge the gap between this passion and my own ability to create. Now with my training, I'm crafting my professional career and figuring out both where this passion will take me and how much power my voice has.

My vision is to aid in the creation of art that makes people think about the value of life, love, gender, family, identity, and community, and how each of these facets intersects to create who we are. The arts put me in a unique place to incite change and bond with an audience, and I want to use this platform to help people think about their place in the world and motivate them to make positive changes in their life to better themselves and the people surrounding them.

There aren't many people like me represented in entertainment, and I am here to be a part of the change in the industry to increase trans visibility and access to the arts.
